North Carolina Race Study Underscores Need for Racial Justice Act

A year ago, legislation passed in North Carolina called the Racial Justice Act. The Act enables death row prisoners and capital defendants to use data to prove that race was a determining factor in their death sentences. Following a recently released study which shows that African Americans are three times more likely to be sentenced to death than whites, the Fayetteville Observer editorializes that the measure is sorely needed in the state.
