Abolish the Death Penalty Blog

Abolish the Death Penalty is a blog dedicated to...well, you know. The purpose of Abolish is to tell the personal stories of crime victims and their loved ones, people on death row and their loved ones and those activists who are working toward abolition. You may, from time to time, see news articles or press releases here, but that is not the primary mission of Abolish the Death Penalty. Our mission is to put a human face on the debate over capital punishment.

You can also follow death penalty news by reading our News page and by following us on Facebook and Twitter.

Statement on Repeal Vote in Connecticut April 11, 2012

PRESS RELEASE

April 11, 2012

Hartford, CT:  “The National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty joins with the Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty and its allies in applauding passage of legislation to repeal the death penalty in 2012.

“The momentum in this country is toward ending the death penalty. With bi-partisan support and passage of repeal legislation in Connecticut, we now have five states that have abandoned the death penalty in five years. The numbers of new death sentences and executions are down and there is a growing body of evidence exposing the death penalty system as failed public policy. We look forward to passing death penalty repeal legislation across the country in the coming years. The National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty has been at it for 35 years, and I am pleased to say that the end of our struggle is in sight.”

Diann Rust-Tierney
Executive Director
