On Sunday, January 26, NCADP hosted the 90 Million Strong Campaign kickoff party at the home of Rev. Barry and Joanne Lynn where we honored Governor Martin O’Malley, Senator Jamie Raskin, Senator Lisa Gladden, Delegate Sandy Rosenberg, and Delegate Salima Marriott for their leadership in the fight to repeal the death penalty in Maryland.
In his remarks about why he personally opposes the death penalty, Senator Raskin commented, “I oppose the death penalty because the government is imperfect…Without DNA testing we all would have been complicit in the murder of Kirk Bloodsworth… As a people we can do better by getting rid of the death penalty… [In Maryland] we’re done with that system and it has opened up space to make real improvements to public safety.”
You can join others in sharing why you oppose the death penalty by adding your photo and statement to our campaign Tumblr page.
The 90 Million Strong Campaign is a nationwide initiative to unite the voices of those who believe the death penalty is wrong and to demonstrate that the broad public support to end this practice is already here in America! Get involved.
