Paul Storey was sentenced to death in 2008 for the 2006 murder of Jonas Cherry.
Cherry's parents wrote to Gov. Greg Abbott asking for a life sentence for Mr. Storey rather than the death penalty. “As a result of Jonas’ death, we do not want to see another family having to suffer through losing a child and family member ... due to our ethical and spiritual values we are opposed to the death penalty,” they wrote.
The execution was halted on April 3, 2017 due to claims of false evidence.
