Information and Media Coverage on the 2010 NCADP Conference
National and local news media coverage highlighted the diversity represented in our conference. Associated Press reporter Brett Barrouquere’s article “Anti-death penalty movement wooing conservatives” featuring an interview with Senator Brown was printed and posted in numerous news outlets, including The Washington Post, The Huffington Post and Salon magazine. Louisville’s CBS television affiliate WLKY aired a story on NCADP Board member and death row exoneree Juan Melendez’s visit with youths in the city’s Central High School, where former heavyweight boxing champion and Louisville native Muhammad Ali had been a student. Public News Service interviewed Murder Victims’ Families for Human Rights program staffer Susannah Sheffer about the organization’s opposition to capital punishment and to executing mentally ill death row prisoners. And the Louisville Courier-Journal published a feature article and pictorial about the interfaith healing service that concluded our conference.
But what made the conference particularly special was all of you who participated as panelists, awards dinner presenters, and volunteers helping at the registration table and elsewhere during the week. Thank you for your energy, your work, your assistance, and your commitment to bringing the unspeakably horrible and irretrievably broken death penalty to an end.
