Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty is comprised of a diverse group of individuals, including, lawyers, former death row inmates, victims’ family members, religious leaders, and students.
Affiliate and individual members of NCADP elect board members to three-year terms of office at the Annual Membership Meeting held in conjunction with our national conference. Past Chairs of the Board include Sister Helen Prejean. Her book, Dead Man Walking, which inspired the Academy Award-winning film, was conceived and written over the three terms that Sister Helen held leadership.
The Board supervises the programmatic direction of the NCADP, setting forth broad-based policies at periodic retreats. The Board is also responsible for the fiscal management of the NCADP and plays an active role in development. Criteria for being nominated to the Board include: unconditional opposition to the death penalty; ability to participate in fund-raising; willingness to serve actively on at least one standing committee; and capacity to attend quarterly board meetings.
